Frankenstein

My presentation on Frankenstein pretty much sums up my feelings on the novel. To me a large part of the novel is about nature vs nurture, good vs evil, abnormal vs normal, and ugly vs beautiful. Although, the outcast in the novel (the wretch) is a monster, he still plays the role that many people play on a daily basis. It’s the divide between acceptance and also feeling alone and different. Some people are able to embrace their individuality and it can be viewed as a very positive thing. I don’t believe it is necessary to fit the social “norm”, however, the wretch could find noone that he was accepted by. He constantly gave people the benefit of the doubt to only be cast out again. So, he sufferered from a great degree of prejudice and lonliness. I feel as though, if Victor had accepted him, even if noone else did, the wretch would have been able to feel some sort of happiness. Frankenstein actually reminds me a lot of the movie, Edward Scissor Hands, although Edward did find people that accepted he was still ostracized because of his differences.
